Family Pimoidae [13 species]

Pimoa Chamberlin & Ivie 1943   (gender feminine)

            Type: Labulla hespera G&I 1936

SYN Metella Fage 1931 (preoccupied, type: Metella breuili Fage 1931), Louisfagea Brignoli 1971 (nom. nov. for Metella Fage, preoccupied)

This genus was placed provisionally in Tetragnathinae by Thaler (1976) and Wunderlich (1979a), and in Metinae by Brignoli (1983).  Wunderlich (1979a) synonymized Pimoa and Louisfagea Brignoli 1971 with the fossil genus Acrometa Petrunk. 1942.  This synonymy was not accepted by Brignoli (1979).  Wunderlich (1986) repudiated his 1979a synonymies and placed Pimoa and its relatives in a new Linyphiid subfamily, the Pimoinae.  Hormiga (1993, 1994a) treated Pimoa and Louisfagea as synonyms and elevated the Pimoniae to family status, considering it to be a sister group of the Linyphiidae.  He did not include Acrometa in the Pimoidae.
